A CoolPeel™ procedure usually lasts about 10-15 min for a full face and can be shorter or longer depending on the size of the specific area being treated. The treatment doesn’t usually require anesthesia as it’s virtually painless. You might feel a warm sensation and your skin will become slightly red like after a sunburn, for a day or two. Therefore, it’s important to keep the skin well hydrated and avoid sun exposure.

Micro-needling uses microscopic needles on a robotic arm to get precise and minimally painful injection sites.  Before your treatment, a thin layer of numbing medicine will be applied to your skin to help minimize the feeling of the tiny needles during the treatment time. 

 Down-time is minimal.  The area that had been treated may be slightly red for 24-48 hours. When using the VirtueRF microneedling by Cartessa at Ericsson Aesthetics, you will be treated to a micro-current peptide mask to soothe the skin and reduce the redness caused by the treatment.

If using a daily retinoic acid, glycolic acid, or salicylic acid, it is recommended that you stop using for 3 days prior and for 3-5 days post procedure. Come to your appointment hydrated and with a clean face. Please ask your provider about any medications you might be taking and if they need to be stopped prior to the procedure.

Microneedling can be done every month.  It is recommended to have 3 monthly treatments to get full benefits of collagen stimulation.  Then maintain the youthful glow by continuing treatments every 6-12 months.

The Ultimate Duo combines the Cool Peel with Virtue RF microneedling. Radiofrequency energy has been used for decades to rejuvenate and tighten the skin. The VirtueRF delivers the radiofrequency waves deep in the dermis, the layer of skin directly underneath the superficial skin layer. This causes the body to produce collagen and elastin, the main supportive proteins in the skin.

As with any treatment, I will personally sit down with you and go over all your options with you before treatment. However, an Ultimate Duo treatment can be administered on virtually any skin type, so most patients will be a candidate for this treatment.

I schedule two hours for the entire treatment. 30-45 min are used in the beginning of the procedure to apply numbing cream to the areas treated. The Virtue RF micro-needling will be done first, and this takes approximately 20-30 min, and the the Cool Peel directly afterwards which takes about 15 min.

The ultimate duo is not comfortable, but not unbearable. With the pre-procedure numbing cream, most people do very well. If you are worried about the pain, and feel you have a low threshold for pain, I have the Nitro-nox machine which can deliver an analgesic effect to reduce the discomfort during the procedure.

Ultimate Duo results will develop over time. As the skin heals, you will immediately see a refreshed brighter complexion within the first few days. Then, over the course of 3 months, you will see brighter and tighter skin as the collagen and elastin are building in the skin and the older dead layers of the skin are sloughed off.

During your consultation, we will discuss what your goals are and how many treatments are needed. Some people chose to get one every 3-4 months and others yearly.

The Ultimate Duo is a safe treatment, as Cool Peel and Virtue RF have both been cleared by the FDA. Ablative laser skin resurfacing treatments like Cool Peel come with the risk of hyper- or hypopigmentation particularly for people with darker skin phototypes. During our consultation, I will recommend before and after treatment products to reduce your risks of hyper or hypopigmentation.

After the Ultimate Duo treatment, you may feel a warm sunburn-like sensation for up to 4 hours post-treatment and should expect to be a little red for a day or two. The skin may feel dry and a bit like sandpaper for three to four days as it heals so it is important to keep the skin hydrated. Once the rough sandpaper like skin has sloughed off, you can return to your normal skin care routine. I will recommend products for you to use immediately after the treatment for the maximum benefit, and also have you stop all active topical products for a minimum of 72 hours post-treatment. After 24 hours, mineral makeup and sunscreen are recommended. It is best to sleep with a clean pillowcase and with the head slightly elevated.
You will be provided with post-treatment care instructions to ensure that your skin stays protected and hydrated as it heals so that you achieve optimal results. Direct sun exposure should be avoided for the first 10-14 days if possible and SPF 30 or higher must be applied prior to going outside.

It is best to schedule a follow-up visit within 3-5 weeks of treatment if possible. This is a great time to take your first set of after-pictures and to check on your skin. I can address any concerns at that time and follow up with suggestions on additional treatments needed at that time.
